TPA to SFO / 2016-06-21

The trip we dreamed about for 8 years, planned for months and traveled all day is finally here.

Waiting patiently at TPA Airport
Opening some surprises for fun things to do on the plane

We left TPA to STL to SFO and the kids did great on the flights.  Brooke made sure thatthey had plenty of activities, snacks and videos to watch.  Southwest Airlines was great too.  I love being able to board between A and B groups with our young children (for families with kids six and under), which ensures that we can all sit together.  And, the free TV on your own electronics was great for us and the kids.

We made it to the San Francisco Airport and Brooke stayed with the kids and waited for the luggage as I made my way to the rental car center.  Our rental car was located off-site, so I had to also grab a shuttle once I arrived at the rental car center.  Fortunately, as I was scrambling down the staircase to the shuttle pickup area, I was able to hail the already departing shuttle and saved at least 15 minutes of waiting.  After grabbing a nice (and big) Ford Expedition, I returned to the airport terminal.  We somehow loaded up the car with four car seats, a double stroller and luggage enough to last us the next month.  It fit!

We were tired from the traveling, so we headed directly for our hotel, the Embassy Suites SFO waterfront yelp_icon.  The views were great and the weather chilly and windy, so we donned some jackets while checking in.  We brought up only the necessary items for our one night stay here and then ventured down to partake in the Manager’s reception.  After, we headed outside to let the kids run around on the lawn and waterfront area.

We were still hungry, and looking for something quick.  So, we made a beeline for the nearest In-N-Out Burger.  This was the first time the kids had been to one and they all loved it, especially being able to order off the Secret Menu.

After dinner, we made it back to the hotel and sleepily got ready for bed.  An adventure awaited us, starting tomorrow.  This is a once in a lifetime trip, something we will always remember.  I will do my best to cherish every moment and create memories as a family that we can always hold onto.

I love my family and I love my wife.  This will be a GREAT trip.

This is day 1 on our California Road Trip Summer 2016.  Make sure to check out the entire trip!
